Pride In Ignorance

I was reading Andy Rooney’s Common Nonsense and he said something that I’d like to share with you folks. He asked why do we like to brag about not knowing things. We say stuff like “I don’t know computers”, or “I don’t read too much”, or “I don’t watch too much TV”. It’s like we say it as if we’re intellectually superior by admitting to not knowing and feel it excuses us from having the responsibility to make such acts as being important enough to attend to. It’s as if we had conquered the subject in question by announcing we have no knowledge of the subject. I don’t watch too much TV myself, but I am selective and am aware of the good stuff that are on TV. And don’t get me started on books…
