Check Out "The Motel"

The Motel – I may have found the Asian American film to end all Asian American films (for the time being). But, I’m not stating that as a fact, so don’t tell me how you liked “BLT” or “The Joy Luck Club“. I just loved this movie – it caught me off-guard and had me cracking my ass off. Being that I am of Asian American descent, by (Asian) human nature, I’d initially referred it to as an AA film. But, that would disrespectfully categorically corner it to a spot it doesn’t deserve to be hidden in.

I’m thinking “Clerks” when I watch this movie, but in a hotel. Well, somewhat. The short synopsis from the official site of The Motel says:

Thirteen-year-old Ernest Chin lives and works at a sleazy hourly-rate motel on a strip of desolate suburban bi-way. Misunderstood by his family and blindly careening into puberty, Ernest befriends Sam Kim, a self-destructive yet charismatic Korean American man who has checked in. Sam teaches the fatherless boy all the rites of manhood.

If and when after watching the film and you get to the credits, look and you see that one of the character’s names is “cheap ass naked man”. Haha! Sorry, that was a bit adolescent. I think that was somewhat an intended pun by me. Go watch The Motel.
